Brooklyn’s Las Rosas will release their excellent Christa 7″ this Friday via Greenway Records. It’s currently available for pre-order on pink vinyl, limited to 200 copies.

The 7″ pairs the title track with an exclusive b-side Lost Cat. Both tracks feature the band’s catchy, effervescent, psych-tinged brand of garage rock.

Stream both below.

We shared Brooklyn-based noise-rockers Russian Baths single Ambulance way back in March 2016, and now we are sharing What’s Your Basement, which is the second single off of their forthcoming, debut EP, Penance.

It is a two minute blast of brilliantly queasy, discordant guitars and crushing percussion that has more than a taste of vintage Sonic Youth about it.

Liking this… a lot.

Not sure what it is about southern Europe at the moment, but hot on the heels of our belated discovery of Italy’s brilliant Bee Bee Sea, we have Portugal’s Sunflowers.

They have an album coming out on February 9th, titled Castle Spell and the two tracks we have for you are just about as good as it gets in terms of full-on, punked-up, psych-rock riffola.

They’ve both been on repeat and both will be in the end of year best of lists – guaranteed.

Check out the pulverising riffing of the title track and the equally good Sleepy Sun. Fabulous stuff.

Mary Gauthier just has one of those voices. Unmistakeable, mesmerising, and thought-provoking. Everything she does, and says, is worth listening to.

She has a new album, Rifles & Rosary Beads, out today via In The Black / Thirty Tigers. Four years in the making, it is a collaborative record in the sense that the eleven songs were co-written with wounded veterans in the SongwritingWith: Soldiers retreats.

Just listen to the poignant and evocative The War After The War below, with it’s gorgeous violin backdrop and insistent guitar as well as (we suspect) what will be one of our favourite opening verses of any song we hear this year.

Who’s going to care for the ones
who care for the ones who went to war?
There’s landmines in the living room
and eggshells on the floor

The wonky, hypnotic and horn-led Golden Spiral is the latest track to be shared from Holly Miranda’s new album Mutual Horse (out on the 23rd February). The album is her fourth solo release since she emerged with her excellent 2010 debut The Magician’s Private Library.

She says of the track, “This track started as a loop I made and was messing around with in my bedroom in the East Village. My best friend, Ambrosia Parsley, came over and heard it and almost immediately sang that opening line, “Ride your pony down the block and tie it up outside of 7-11”. Ambrosia grew up in Reseda, California (the deep valley) in the 70’s and her friend Tiffany had a horse named Honey. Ambrosia used to ride on the back, picking plums and oranges off the trees that hung over peoples fences along the way. Then they would tie it up outside 7-11 and get coke Slur-pees. Also, her neighbour really did make ’sexy movies’.”

If nothing else, I wish I had a friend called Ambrosia Parsley! Listen to the single below, it is a gem.

In the week that we lost the incomparable Mark E Smith, it is perhaps fitting that our current favourite insouciant northerners return with a blistering new single of their own.

Arms of Pleonexia comes from Cabbage’s debut album proper, Nihilistic Glamour Shots to be released 30th March on Infectious Music. Blending social comment with mordant black humour and a keen eye for detail, the new single is a savagely frenetic addition to their rapidly growing collection of brilliantly observed post-punk anthems, and just whets the appetite for the full album even further.

Mr Smith would be proud I’m sure. Listen below.

Marvellous northern psych-punk duo The Lovely Eggs have shared another cracking (no pun intended) new single from forthcoming long player This Is Eggland.

Wiggy Giggy takes us on a cosmic odyssey where “normal” life and always “striving for more” meet something more magical! Where the grass is not always greener whatever side you look from.

Of the single, guitarist/vocalist Holly Ross said:  “It is inspired by a book we used to read to our son, about a spaceman who went off exploring other planets but every planet he went to, there was something inhospitable or wrong with it and when he landed back on planet Earth he realised that after all his cosmic travels that Earth was the best place for him to live. It was pretty deep and we really identified with it. We feel the same about Lancaster where we live. It might be a shithole, but it’s OUR shithole and we love it. Not much goes on up here and there’s not much to do so it’s kind of like living in space. But we like being cosmonauts!

Give it a spin.

Dead Meadow will be releasing a new album, The Nothing They Need  on 30th March in the UK. They have just shared their first single, Keep Your Head, which perfectly exemplifies the band’s unique marriage of Sabbath riffs, dreamy layers of guitar-fuzz bliss, and singer Jason Simon’s melodic croon.

Dive in…
